It had been a while since I’d been to the Georgetown Waterfront, so I decided it would be worth exploring for a Sunday Snapshot. The views are just as picturesque as I remember – and with some new restaurants (and more on the way), it’s also a great place to dine and enjoy a day (or evening) away from city life.

From first to last photo: a statue of Gandhi outside the Embassy of India; flowers give way to a view of the Embassy of Greece; a statue of the Saraswati Goddess at the Embassy of Indonesia; the Permanent Mission of Mexico to the OAS; flowers outside the Embassy of Vietnam; the Embassy of Haiti; a view of the residence of the Ambassador to Brazil; and Harambee outside the Embassy of Kenya.
One of my favorite Sunday walks is a stroll on Massachusetts Avenue NW from Scott Circle to the National Cathedral. This area – commonly referred to as Embassy Row – features many embassies on what was historically Washington, DC’s “Millionaires’ Row.” The further north you go, the more residential the area becomes, and the further away you feel from the hustle and bustle of the city. (That is, of course, if you aren’t walking through this area during the week, when traffic in the area will definitely remind you that you are still in the city!)
Beautiful architecture, sculpture, and design abound in this area. Though the above photos focus on what can be seen directly on Massachusetts Avenue, you may enjoy wandering down any of the connecting side streets, where you’ll find some of DC’s best hidden architectural gems.
