The fourth annual DC Zinefest happens this Saturday at St. Stephen’s Church in Columbia Heights. More than 50 zine makers, writers, and artists from around Washington, DC, and the United States will be showcasing their work. The event is free and runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. [DC Zinefest]

It’s a great weekend for big comedy in DC. Jerry Seinfeld performs at the Kennedy Center on Friday and Saturday and Jim Gaffigan performs at the Filene Center at Wolf Trap on Saturday  in nearby Vienna, Virginia.

DC Bites + Style: April 30, 2014

Soi 38, specializing in authentic Thai street food, is now open near 21st and L St. NW. [Soi 38]

Robin Givhan is returning to the Washington Post this June.  [Styleite]

Soupergirl will be opening a take-out restaurant on M St. NW in mid-May and will offer a rotation of 5 different soups each day.  Options will presumably include Soupergirl’s creative gazpacho soups (including watermelon!) as the temperatures warm up.  [Washington Post]

Alice + Olivia will be opening a standalone store in Georgetown this September in the former Qdoba space.  [Racked]

We saw the sign weeks ago, and now it’s official:  District Taco is open in the former Cosi space at 20th and M St NW.

Yesterday was the last day of business for Juicy Couture in Georgetown.  No word yet on which retailer might take over the space, though there are rumors that Kate Spade Saturday might be one of the contenders.  Trends they come, trends they go!  [Washingtonian]

  • Looking for a new eating experience this weekend?  Whole Foods Foggy Bottom will be hosting a five-course, Italian-inspired gourmet vegan meal on Saturday, April 19 at 7pm.  Weather permitting, the event will be held in the store’s outdoor patio area.  Tickets are $10 and are available by emailing the store.  [Whole Foods Market]

  • STYLECABLE, a curated online website featuring up-and-coming fashion designers, will be hosting a pop up party on Wednesday, April 23 at 1776.  Tickets include an open bar, a lip and lash bar, and a promotional discount on jewelry, handbags, and apparel available for sale at the event.  [EventBrite]

  • GCDC is now open at 1730 Pennsylvania Ave NW.  The focus for lunch is grilled cheese sandwiches, soup, and tots, but the options expand for dinner with an extensive wine, cheese, and beer selection.  Yum!  [GCDC]

  • Oyamel has extended its hours and its late night offerings.  The restaurant will now be open until midnight Sunday through Wednesdays and until 2 a.m. Thursday through Saturdays.
