Beauty experts always emphasize the importance of moisturizing. At District Style, we also believe in the power of moisturizing – especially in the winter. Between the cold, windy weather outside and the always-too-hot heat inside, it’s easy for your face to feel dry, chapped, or just plain irritated during this time of year.
Here’s our top five moisturizing products for winter.
Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré is a buzzy French favorite that’s now available stateside thanks to online shopping. It’s got a great, creamy texture that visibly hydrates and softens your skin at a quality much higher than we would normally expect at this price. Active ingredients include shea butter, beeswax, aloe vera, and soy proteins. It does not include sunscreen, so make sure you use another product that does.
The Clarins Bright Plus HP Brightening Hydrating Day Lotion SPF 20 recommendation comes from a friend who swears by this product so much, she refuses to try any other moisturizer. This 2-in-1 product hydrates, smoothes, and softens the skin but still manages to leave a matte finish. Our friend also recommends this product in place of makeup primer and suggests applying makeup about a minute after using this moisturizer.
For extra hydration, try Caudalie Divine Oil prior to moisturizer application. While it’s suitable as a year-round product, it will give you extra protection against winter’s drying, irritating effects on the skin. A friend recommends letting your skin absorb the oil for approximately 2 to 5 minutes before applying a moisturizer. For best results in the winter, she suggests using the oil with Clarins HydraQuench Cream.
H20+ Marine Daily Hydrator keeps another friend’s skin soft and clear during the winter. Despite its light weight, it moisturizes well and protects against dry, chapped skin. The mild formula is oil free and protects against dehydration with sea lettuce, sea fennel, and wakame.
As its name suggests, ROC Retinol Correxion Sensitive Night Cream is made for nighttime use only. It is correspondingly heavier than the other products on this list, but by the time you wake up, you won’t even feel it. Though this is another great year-round product and primarily meant to combat fine lines and wrinkles, it also does wonders for rehydrating the skin after a long day outdoors. As it contains retinol, we do recommend trying a small amount to see how your skin will react first. Remember that any use of retinol, even in a product as mild as this one, does require you to use sunscreen during the day.
